Young Halime Gezer is 9 years old. She was diagnosed with leukemia in March and has been undergoing chemotherapy at the Gazi University Hospital in Ankara. Since November she has been treated at the Oncology Centre in Nicosia.
Halime is in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant. So far, following an appeal for donors in Cyprus, her doctors have not found an appropriate donor locally and will need to extend their search abroad.
Her father, Suleyman Gezer, who said that the donor compatibility test was made by taking samples from an oral swab, noting that potential donors should be 18-45 years old and have TRNC identity cards.
Citizens who want to donate can go to the Kemal Saratsoglou Foundation for Children with Leukemia and Cancer Warfare Foundation in Nicosia between the hours of 08.30-16.30 every weekday morning.
Additionally, a request for a donor has been filed at the Karaiskakio foundation in south Nicosia through Turkish Cypriot Kemal Saratsoglou foundation.
