World Human Rights Day is celebrated today around the world to mark the anniversary of the day when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10th December 1948.
The spotlight for this year is on the rights of everyone “to make their voices heard in public life and be included in political decision-making”, with a particular focus on marginalised groups, people with disabilities, the poor, minority groups, youth and women. As part of the celebrations, people from around the world are taking part in live online discussions about human rights in practice and activities in their area to help people make their voices heard.
The global celebrations were marked by a seminar this morning at Girne American University. The seminar title was “Human rights and Women”, featuring volunteer speakers from the Human Rights Foundation. The seminar was also televised live on GAU TV.
