Work to facilitate the return of Maronites to their villages in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus continues.
To this end, a meeting was held at the Presidential Palace yesterday where a sub-committee was established with the aim of enabling the participation of Maronites in the process.
According to a statement released by the TRNC Presidency, during the committee meeting which was headed by the Presidential Undersecretary Gürdal Hüdaoğlu, the legal, financial, technical and social dimensions of the return of the Maronites were discussed.
Progress achieved so far was evaluated and the work needed to be done were also planned during the meeting.
According to a programme set up at the meeting, the respective government departments will carry out the necessary tasks.
The committee will meet again on Wednesday, 16 August.
Meanwhile, the sub-committee established that consists of the Undersecretary of the Deputy Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Finance Kudret Akay, Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry Gürkan Kara and Presidential Advisor for Political Affairs and History Meltem Onurkan Samani will be in contact with Maronites during the process.
At a high level meeting held under the leadership of President Mustafa Akıncı at the Presidential Palace on 26th July, a political decision was taken to enable the return of Maronites to their villages.
