The battle over who will manage the water distribution from the Century Project continues.
Turkey, which has spent millions of Lira on the project to bring water from South Turkey by undersea pipeline to the TRNC, wants the transfer and distribution of the water to be managed by a private company. However, the TRNC local municipalities say that they should be in charge of water distribution.
Turkey points out that that the local councils are bankrupt and prefers a private company, with its own experts, to manage the water distribution.
The TRNC government is insisting that it should be responsible and that local councils should manage water canalisation and be overseen by the state’s water authority.
With this uncertainty hanging around, everyone waits for 29th October, when the project is scheduled to complete.
