Recently, the residents of Nicosia have been heavily resorting to water tankers for their drinking water needs because of the many water supply problems we reported previously.
Now the Nicosia District Governor Kemal Dana, has struck out at illegal tankers saying that these have sprung up to meet a surge in demand but that many provide water that is unsafe for drinking. He pointed out that only 15 tankers have a licence to carry drinking water and only 8 wells are licensed to supply them. Residents should rely on these as they are tested regularly.
This announcement was reinforced by the Nicosia Police department who said that from now there would be strict inspection and control of water tankers on the streets of Nicosia.
