The UN Secretary-General’s Temporary Envoy Jane Holl Lute, will pay a one-day visit Cyprus. She will meet both community leaders on Wednesday.
Lute will meet with President Anastasiades at 11.30am tomorrow and President Akıncı at 4pm..
President Akıncı said after his informal meeting with Anastasiades on Friday, that the Turkish Cypriot side does not want to be part of a process that is open-ended and non-result oriented. He said that they want to deal with these issues with Lute.
In order to tell if it is possible to start a new negotiations process following Lute’s visit, Akıncı stated that he would see what the likely framework for new talks would entail.
On July 23, Lute met with Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akıncı to discuss whether there were any grounds for further negotiations on Cyprus.
After she met with the two community leaders, Lute prepared her report for UNSG Guterres. He handed his report to the UN Security Council on October 15. The report will be discussed at a Security Council meeting being held today.
