The Head of the High Electoral Council and Chief Justice Narin Şefik has said that the unofficial results of this Sunday’s early general elections will most likely not emerge before the early hours of Monday morning.
In a meeting with journalists yesterday, Şefik reminded that media outlets will not be able to announce any results before 7pm election day.
Stating that all results regarding to the election will be announced by Tuesday, the 9th of January, she said that the unofficial results which will reveal which parties passed the 5 percent election threshold and how many deputies from those parties made it into parliament will most likely not emerge before the early hours of Monday morning.
Şefik pointed out that different from past elections, votes will not be counted in each district but will be counted and announced only by the High Electoral Council in Lefkoşa.
Reminding that the campaign propaganda period will end at 6pm on Saturday, the Head of the High Electoral Council said that legal action will be launched against any party or candidate who violates the ban and continues to campaign after the 6pm deadline.
Voters will have to present legal identification such as an ID, a passport or a driving license at ballot stations in order to be able to vote.
