The Turkish Cypriot Federation of Trade Unions, El-Sen, has come out strongly against proposals to privatise electricity supplies.
El-Sen Chairman, Arslan Bicakli, says a country as small as North Cyprus must keep control of its power supplies. He provided South Cyprus and Malta as examples to follow. He said that El-Sen had an agreement with the Government but that this was now being ignored.
Mr Bicakli said that it was a cause of concern that the ambassador of another country had interfered on this topic, referring to the recent statements made by the Turkish Ambassador encouraging privatisation.
Mr Bicakli continued that his union would fight to prevent the privatisation of Kib-Tek.
