UN peacekeeping force to stay in Cyprus

The UN Security Council has met to extend the mandate of the peacekeeping force in Cyprus until January 31st 2014.

UNFICYP has been on the island since 1964. The force currently consists of 800 soldiers and 65 police.

13 members of the UN voted for the extension with Azerbaijan and Pakistan abstaining.
