UN Peace Keeping Force stays until July 2013

The UN mandate for Cyprus has been extended by six months to July 2013.

The UN peace keeping force consists of around one thousand personnel and its purpose is to avoid armed conflict between the TRNC and the Republic of Cyprus.

At the Security Council, 14 members voted in favour of negotiations continuing between the two parties with Azerbaijan abstaining.
