UK wants no special guarantor role in Cyprus

Officials from the UK High Commission in Nicosia have said that Britain is not looking for a special role as regards the guarantees in Cyprus, but they maintain the view that if they are asked to undertake a role, they will try to do it in order to support and aid the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

Asked by ‘Kibris Gazetesi’ to comment on the issue, the officials said that the UK adheres to the position expressed by the British Foreign Secretary in July.

The paper writes that during their meeting last Friday, the British Prime Minister, David Cameron told Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades that Britain continues its support for the efforts for finding a settlement in Cyprus.
