The UBP party were shunned by the voters in Sunday’s elections. In addition their party leader, Irsen Kucuk, lost his seat in parliament.
As a response to both these events, the party is hurriedly preparing a general convention.
Its purpose will be to try and set a new course for the party to make it more attractive to voters and
Kucuk is determined to hold on to power within his party. However the convention will allow others to mount leadership challenges.
The General Secretary of the party, Necdet Numan said that he felt his party should be included in a grand coalition.
However, this is unlikely as the leading CTP party will look to do a deal with the DP as they will then have 33 seats between them and only need 26 to govern.
