There have been a number of Court decisions in relation to the elections held at the last UBP annual convention.
During those elections, it was declared that the Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk had won a narrow victory against his opponent Dr Ahmet Kasif. However Mr Kasif went to court to dispute that the elections were illegally conducted. A number of Courts agreed with Dr Kasif and judgements were made to annul the elections and call for new ones. The Prime Minister continued to appeal against these judgements but the matter was finally settled when Dr Kasif’s claims were upheld by the Supreme Court.
Now the UBP party has held a general assembly and has declared that new elections will be held on Sunday February 24th. This decision has been welcomed by both candidates.
