Twitter users in the TRNC were also affected by the ban on Twitter by the Turkish government on Saturday.

Nevertheless, the director of Information and Communication Technologies authority, Kadri Buruncuk stated that Turkish officials had been informed of this problem and was assured that North Cyprus would not be affected by this restriction.

Meanwhile, Turkey has stepped up its efforts to block access to Twitter after many users found ways to circumvent the ban. Since Internet service providers in the country are now blocking the addresses used by the site, it has become increasingly difficult to access the site.

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan, in a desperate attempt to salvage his government’s increasingly damaged reputation by stifling the press and social media has said that he would “root out” the social media network, which he says has been spreading wire-tapped recordings that have undermined his government’s reputation.
