Machinery which will be used for constructing a tunnel between Gecitkoy and Kalkanlı in Guzelyurt arrived in North Cyprus on twenty seven lorries. The tunnelling equipment arrived at the port of Famagusta and the convoy of lorries travelled to Gecitkoy via Nicosia under police escort.
Former minister of agriculture, Kenan Akin welcomed the arrival the machinery at the Famagusta port “with great enthusiasm”.
The water [sourced from Turkey] being conveyed to Gecitkoy, will be stored in a depot with a 250 ton capacity at Kalkanlı. Pipes of five metres diameter will be dug in 80 metres underground over a distance of five kilometres.
