Turkish Drillship ‘Yavuz’ Leaves Karpaz Region

Turkey’s second drillship ‘Yavuz’ has completed its first stage of oil and natural gas exploration activities offshore Karpaz and has moved to the Turkish port of Taşucu, in the province of Mersin.

The drillship is waiting to replenish stocks off Taşucu port. Its next destination will be clarified after completing its preparations.

Turkey dispatched the ‘Yavuz’ to Cyprus on June 21 as part of its efforts to press its claims to potentially rich gas reserves in the eastern Mediterranean, which has led to tensions between Turkey, Cyprus and Greece.

Turkey’s first drillship, the ‘Fatih’, began searching for gas and oil in the region in May. There have been no reports of its withdrawal from the area.
