Turkish Cypriots not to be sidelined in the negotiations

Following information received about a recently held meeting between President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, President Akinci issued a statement on Thursday. He said that there could be no solution if it was the Greek Cypriot side’s intention to ignore the Turkish Cypriots and deal with Turkey directly.

“There cannot be a solution under such circumstance. The solution will be found in Cyprus by Cypriots,” he added.

Akinci said that the TRNC supports Turkey’s EU accession. “We know that the Cyprus problem, unresolved, constitutes a restriction to that.”

“However, the road to a Cyprus solution does not pass from Brussels but from Nicosia. Undoubtedly Brussels, Ankara and Athens are important centres that will contribute to the solution, but he is wrong who believes the Turkish Cypriots can be left out of the solution process”, the statement concluded.
