Supplying the TRNC with electricity from Turkey via cable is inevitable, Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun has said.
Noting that energy efficiency is one of the most important factors in increasing the competititiveness of business, Atun said: “Unfortunately energy production in the country is mostly obtained through burning fuel oil. We need to put an end to this and we, as the ministry, have the will to do it”.
Reminding that a protocol for cooperation in the field of energy had been approved by the assembly last week, Atun said that the government will bring electricity from Turkey to the North Cyprus via undersea cable.
He also pointed out that unlike the TRNC, the rise in foreign exchange rates and oil prices had not impacted the price of electricity in Turkey.
