A man, who went absent without leave during his military service, has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police.
Erkan Yavuz disappeared from his army unit and entered the South illegally in January 2010.
From there he visited the TRNC many times, using a fake identity in the name of Ugur Ozbeyir.
Yesterday, some three years later, as he was entering the TRNC with his Greek Cypriot girlfriend, he was arrested and held by police. His car which had Greek Cypriot number plates was also seized. Inside the car there was a passport, driving licence and citizen identity card. They were all in the name of Ugur Ozbeyir but had his photograph on them.
Mr Yavuz has been to court and charged. He has apparently crossed over to the TRNC many times using fake papers. He will be held while police investigations continue.
