The TRNC will continue granting citizenship to whoever has the right to take it, Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktaş has said. “Let no one expect us to stop because Anastasiades will get angry”, he told Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Yeni Duzen’.
Asked what will happen about the deadlocked Cyprus negotiations, Denktas said that it is not possible to get results as long as one of the sides says that “I am the owner of everything on the island” and acts in a manner approved by the whole world.
“We have reached a certain point”, he said adding that it is meaningless to push matters further. He also said that the UN’s good offices mission should change in order to achieve a result.
Referring to the regime’s economy, Denktaş said that they are not “as relaxed” as they were expecting to be and added that the foreign exchange rate during the past month, inflation and the increase in the cost of living had overturned their predictions.
By June they will, to a great extent, solve the outstanding issues created by the economic protocol signed with Turkey, he said.
Asked about the likelihood of holding early elections, Denktaş said that there will be no early elections in the TRNC before April 2018.
