More Turkish Cypriots live in the UK than live in North Cyprus, UBP member, Unal Ustel said on KIBRIS TV recently.
He also pointed out that flights to North Cyprus were expensive because of the lack of direct flights. Ustel said that it was important to review incentives for tourism.
When his party was in power and even with the current government, the biggest problems were those encounter by Brits who had bought homes in North Cyprus. Now they were selling up and moving to southern Turkey, he said. He added that it was important to persuade these people to return.
“If we don’t upset these people by drowning them in bureaucracy and bring them back to island, we will not need tourists”, he said.
