Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk has lost his appeal against the court’s decision to hold a new election for the leadership of the ruling UBP. The court found that there had been irregularities in the election process.
The High Court finally said that he must hold a new election within 10 days. Mr Kucuk appealed against this decision and also challenged the court’s right to set a time frame for the election and so the court responded in kind.
This morning, Supreme Court judge Sefik said that there was no way around it as the judgement had been made in accordance with the UBP constitution. He then added that the election must now be held within seven days.
