The UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Advisor in Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar will meet with Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akinci this morning, the United Nations has confirmed.
On Tuesday, Spehar met with President Nicos Anastasiades who is trying to arrange a social dinner between the two leaders.
The two community leaders have not met since the Cyprus negotiations collapsed in Crans-Montana, Switzerland last July.
Update: Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Havdis’ reports that Spehar briefly made a brief statement after the one hour meeting held this morning with President Akinci which included Presidential Spokesman Baris Burcu and EU Special Adviser Ercan Erçin, only to say that she had had a pleasant meeting with President Akinci.
Noting that the UN will continue to do its duty, Spehar pointed out that future events in Cyprus would depend on both the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides.
Spehar also noted that if there are any developments, she will inform the press.
