Many people are unable to pay their electricity bills which have seen increases of up to 30%, former head of the Farmers’ Union Turgut Ceyda, has said.
However, there is an opportunity to produce cheaper electricity for the TRNC by using an international company’s solar energy system that can provide and invest in electricity.
He said that the union had been contacted by the CEO of an international energy company in South Korea. Ceyda also noted that Ozdil Nami, the Minister for Energy and Economy was investigating the costs to the TRNC consumer of electricity supplied by Turkey by undersea cable and other energy options. He stressed that solar energy could provide a great opportunity for cheaper electricity for the state.
