The supply of electricity to the old harbour in Kyrenia has been modernised. The old harbour had been cut off for non- payment of bills but has now had smart meters installed for boats using the harbour.
Forty smart meters have been installed, each with three sockets. The objective is to increase these to sixty meters in the next few months, with a further eight meters installed behind the castle walls.
Plan are also in place to install smart water meters.
The objective is that boat owners will use prepaid cards to pay for their electricity and water in advance. In this way, Kyrenia Council will not be left with unpaid bills to contend with.
In addition the breakwater road leading to the old harbour has had fourteen street lights installed. These are automated, using sensors.
Broken benches and rubbish bins are in line to be replaced.
