Speaker of the House, Sibel Siber, has been voted in as the ruling party’s candidate for next year’s presidential elections, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.
Dr Siber was the only person to apply to represent the CTP-BG in the presidential elections.
Last week CTP-BG announced that for the first time in the party’s history, interested members could submit applications in order to be nominated for candidacy. The deadline for submissions was Monday and after a week of speculation, Sibel Siber was the only one who applied.
According to ‘Kibris Postasi’ sources, some members of the Central Executive Board objected to Siber’s application. In an earlier edition, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reported that Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktash did not support Siber’s candidacy. Given that there were objections by some, party members voted by secret ballot.
Following yesterday’s vote, Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu declared that the decision had been unanimous and wished Dr Siber good luck.
Dr Siber thanked the Prime Minister and wished everyone good luck in the future.
