Candidates who wish to run in next year’s presidential elections will be able to submit their applications to the party on Monday 15th September, Bayrak TV reports.
The ruling CTP-BG party has decided that it will elect its own candidate on the same day.
Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Havadis’, quoting reliable sources, writes that the Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber will submit an application for candidacy and that she appears to be the strongest candidate.
The paper adds, however, that Foreign Minister Ozdil Nami has not decided yet whether to submit himself as a candidate. Results of a poll in August showed Nami to be the least popular as a potential candidate and at that time he said he was not interested in running for the post of president.
