Turkey reportedly has been withdrawing its troops in North Cyprus. This activity has intensified in recent days.
According to an exclusive report by Turkish Cypriot daily,’Afrika’, citing reliable sources, Turkish troops have been gradually withdrawn from the TRNC over the past six months.
Sources say that commando units in Akdeniz and Camlibel have been totally depleted. The operation to pull out troops has been conducted in secret and the overall number of military personnel in Cyprus has been reduced. Some troop units has been reduced by two thirds, the report says.
‘Afrika’ comments that Turkey continues its intensive fight against the PKK in the southeast. The whole country remains on high alert and Turkish troops have been deployed from Cyprus for reinforcement.
