Power Balance in E Med is Being Disturbed: Ozersay

The balance of power in the Eastern Mediterranean will be altered if South Cyprus permits France to establish a military base on the island. Further, British F-35 jets in Cyprus and joint military manoeuvres between South Cyprus and Israel will contribute to the destabilisation of the status quo, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay has said.

Therefore, in order to address the balance, the TRNC would enhance cooperation in the military and security arenas with Turkey, he said.

Turkey and the TRNC will not allow any ‘fait accompli’ as regards natural resources and the balance of power in the Eastern Mediterranean, the foreign minister said.”Our efforts on the natural gas issue are continuing internationally. Our representatives held meetings in the US on this issue. We will allow no one to take away the rights of the Turkish Cypriots. Within this framework, we are in full cooperation with Turkey”, said Ozersay.

Referring to the solution of the Cyprus problem, Ozersay said that a federal solution was no longer realistic and new models needed to be discussed.

The two political parties which had the courage to say this had established a coalition”, he noted, with reference to the newly-formed coalition government.
