Over 200 occupational accidents take place every year in North Cyprus.
Since the beginning of 2015 there have been five accidents, one of which claimed the life of a worker. Two of the accidents happened last week but the investigations into the three that happened at the beginning of the year have not been completed.
The report blames the lack of adequate inspections at construction sites which are the scenes of the most serious industrial accidents. In addition, there is criticism over the time it takes to investigate accidents.
Speaking to ‘Kibris Postasi’ the head of Labour Office İsmail Bayhanlı said that investigation of four cases out of five was still continuing and he called upon the Ministry of Transportation, Chamber of Construction Contractors and Union of Subcontractors to step up safety inspections in the construction sector.
