Prime Minister, Irsen Kucuk, was until yesterday also head of the majority party UBP. However Nicosia High Court yesterday stripped him of his party chairmanship. His initial reaction to the ruling is that he will appeal the court decision.
In a written statement, Mr Kucuk said that he won the recent vote for party chairman fairly and justly and that he would fight against those that had managed to overrule the election by way of a technicality. Mr Kucuk also stated that this ruling does not in any way reduce his capacity to govern the country.
He finished defiantly by saying that he is still the Prime Minister and UBP party chairman.
