A meeting was held on the Girne-Çatalköy Development Plan at the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the statement made by the Ministry, the meeting which took place under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Ayşegül Baybars, was attended by the Mayor of Kyrenia Nidai Güngördü, the Mayor of Çatalköy Mehmet Hulusioğlu, the Director of the City Planning Department Türkmen Yiğitcan and the Urban Planning Department technical staff.
The statement said that last week, the minister was informed by expert staff and mayors of the City Planning Department who had discussed the Zoning Plan with a delegation composed of civil society organisations.
Interior Minister Ayşegül Baybars stated that they were trying to make the most effective decisions by talking to all the stakeholders before publishing the plan. She said, “Zoning plans are a difficult process and plans are prepared with great effort; therefore, every subject should be considered in the plan”.
Pointing out that the development plans for the whole country continued, Ms. Baybars stated that infrastructure is the most important factor when planning.
Mistakes made in the past about zoning have brought Kyrenia to the point where it has become gridlocked, she said. Ms. Baybars said and that she will work diligently so that the the same mistakes are not repeated in other areas.
