Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun inspected the ongoing work for opening the Aplic border crossing point in Lefke. The government is ready to open both Aplic and Derinya crossings, he said. “If Aplic does not open, Derinya will not open. Both should open simultaneously. As government, our opinions regarding this are clear”, Ozgurgun said.
Noting that the Turkish Cypriot side had done its utmost towards this project, Ozgurgun added: “We are expecting them [the Greek Cypriots] to respond. This work cannot be completed unilaterally. In the same way that a solution to the Cyprus problem cannot be found unilaterally, so in order to open the crossing points, simultaneous and mutual steps need to be taken”, he said.
“Crossing points are a fundamental issue. While free movement is increased, the solution will be achieved spontaneously even though politics will not be on the table. […]. I reiterate my call to the Greek Cypriot side: Let’s open simultaneously the Aplic and Derinya crossing points”, Ozgurgun said.
