Nine TRNC universities are participating the 2017 National Universities Search and Rescue Games (NUSAR) which began today.
The International Universities Search and Rescue Council’s General Assembly and the Disaster Management Symposium are being held in Girne.
The NUSAR games 2017 opened with a ceremony at Güvenpark, Girne today.
The games being held under the coordination of the Civil Defence Organisation will continue until 26th April.
This year’s slogan for the exercises is “Let’s Save Lives” and was attended by the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Major General Yılmaz Yıldırım, the Minister of National Education Özdemir Berova, the Director of the Civil Defence Organisation Erdoğan Çelebi, Ombudsperson Emine Dizdarlı, and representatives of the participating universities.
Addressing the ceremony, the Director of the Civil Defence Organisation Erdoğan Çelebi said that there was no other example of the games, the second of which was being held this year.
He said that students studying at universities in the TRNC will be able to apply the skills and knowledge provided to them by the Civil Defence Organisation and the International Universities Search and Rescue Council during the two day programme.
