Following the breakdown of Nicosia State hospital’s computer system in early March, all health records dating back to 2002 (11 years) have been irretrievably lost.
The hospital deals with thousands of patients every year. However, due to a technical problem, all data input about their health, examination results and medicines are now gone.
The so-called backup system was proven to be deficient.
Apparently, the problem involved the computer’s hard drive and even though it was eventually sent to Turkey for expert examination, nothing could be done.
Currently all health records are being kept on paper, while the Health Ministry decides on a new automation system.
