The situation in Nicosia went from hopeful to catastrophic in a few short hours yesterday.
The Nicosia council did not meet, salaries were not paid and at the end, Mayor Bulutoglulari resigned.
The many issues surrounding Nicosia council, which have been running for months, came to a head yesterday with the resignation of the Mayor, Cemal Bulutoglularli. His resignation was greeted with joy by council employees who made bonfires again, in front of Nicosia Council headquarters.
The council was due to meet yesterday to approve the transfer of TL 6 million from the Ministry of Finance. However three of the twelve UPB party members did not attend and a quorum could not be formed. The original council numbers were 22 but the rest had already resigned.
