President Eroglu, Prime Minister Kucuk and a number of other government ministers attended a ceremony on Tuesday 9th October to formally open the new road from Kilitkaya to Ergazi in the Karpaz region. The 4km stretch of road was funded by Turkey at a cost of 2.4 million TL.
There are also plans to improve the road layout at the main Gonyeli roundabout on the outskirts of Lefkosa, to ease traffic congestion in that area. The roundabout sits at the end of the dual carriageway between Girne and Lefkosa and is therefore a main entry point to Lefkosa, with around 29,000 vehicles per day crossing the roundabout. The improvements will be particularly welcomed by commuters, who face the worst congestion during rush hour.
President Eroglu is also reported to have mentioned consideration of a possible dual carriageway between Iskele and Bafra in the Karpaz.
