New driving restrictions have been imposed on the Degirmenlik-Kyrenia mountain road.
Passengers cars (carrying less than 9 people) will not be permitted to used the road between 09.00 and 19.00 hours. Heavy lorries will not be allowed to used the road between 19.00 and 09.00 hours.
The new rules have been put in place following a number of accidents on the mountain road including one which occurred on 29 November, 2016 when, in the early morning, a heavy lorry veered across the road, colliding with a school bus, killing the driver and two schoolgirls. Seven other children who were also on board were injured. Four of the victims remained in intensive care for a number of weeks.
Restrictions come into force on Monday 5 March.
