Turkish Cypriot negotiator Ozdil Nami and Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis met in the buffer zone on Wednesday, to prepare for the meeting between President Anastasiades and President Akinci to be held on Monday evening.
The negotiators also discussed UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s request to intensify the negotiating process and decided to speed up their work.
They met again on Thursday and in the afternoon they held another meeting with the mobile network operators from both sides of the island, to discuss mobile operations.
President Akinci’s spokesman Baris Burcu, stated that the meeting with the mobile phone operators is separate from the negotiating process and added: “There are some technical proposals. The view of both sides’ operators will be taken on this issue. We will see whether they will want changes or they will accept them as they are”.
Referring to the meeting held Wednesday, Burcu said that it was held in a positive climate and, except for the preparation of the meeting between the leaders, the negotiators exchanged views on how they will meet more often within the forthcoming period.
Finally, he said that the negotiators prepared for programming the intensification of the process and discussed the productivity of the ad hoc committee established to prepare the Turkish Cypriots for the EU.
