Murderer caught in North Cyprus

Emre Cakir, a Turkish national, shot dead a fellow countryman in February of this year. The murder
took place in the Adiyaman region, south-central Turkey. He then fled and despite a police
manhunt could not be found.

However on November 5th he was arrested by TRNC police in the town of Guzelyurt in North Cyprus.

Mr Cakir has since appeared in court and said that he fled the crime scene because he knew that ‘enemies
would be after him’. He will be detained without bail for 30 days, until the required paperwork is
completed to send him back to the authorities on the Turkish mainland.
