Murder Suspect Remanded for Three Days

North Cyprus News - Home of murder victim - Gokhan NaimPakistani national Imran Arshad, wanted for the murder of local businessman Gokhan Naim (52) has been remanded in custody by a Nicosia court.

Arshad was handed over to the Turkish Cypriot authorities by the Greek Cypriot police. He had fled south after Naim, the owner of a foreign exchange bureau, was shot at close range outside his home in Ortakoy, Nicosia in March. He was also robbed of large amount of cash which he was carrying in a brief case.

On August 9, following an informal meeting of the two Cypriot community leaders, Greek Cypriot police handed over another suspect, Azmad Ali Virk, believed to be involved in the murder. It is believed that the two men had escaped across the border together.

A number of other men have been arrested in connection with the crime.
