Most of the mosques in the TRNC have been operating without electricity as KIBTEK has cut off power due to non payment of bills.
Now a temporary solution has been reached to allow the mosques to be lit up for Bayram. Prime Minister Yorgancioglu has intervened to patch up a long running dispute as to who is responsible for the bills.
The government has made an interim payment of TL 200,000 to KIBTEK so that the power can be turned back on.
Meanwhile the Department of Religious Affairs has been instructed to prepare a long term budget for government review.
Relations between the government and the department are strained as the latter is currently suing the government.
