The Committee on Missing Persons has teams digging in Turkish military land for the first time. The exact location has not been specified but it is claimed that the dig is at the military camp by the village of Kilicarslan.
There are rumours that between ten to twenty Greek Cypriots were killed there by Turkish bombardment in 1974 and were buried by their fellow fighters.
Greek Cypriot newspapers are claiming that this first approval of a dig in a military area is due to the intense pressure on Turkey and that other similar approvals may follow.
The teams are bicommunal and autonomous and have been trained by international experts from the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF)
