Man suspected having Creutzfeld-Jacob disease dies in hospital – updated

One of two people suspected of having Creutzfeld-Jacob disease – commonly known as ‘mad cow’ disease has died at Nicosia State Hospital this morning. A post-mortem is being carried out on 59 year old Fatis Us, to establish the cause of death.

A statement from the Ministry of Health has said that the diagnosis is as yet unconfirmed and that it will issue a further statement when test results are known.

It added that “in our country, there were only 5 people tested in the last 10 years, suspected of having CJD .”
