Locally Grown Tobacco to be Exported

North Cyprus News - Tufan Erhurman - leader of CTPTufan Erhurman, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources visited the Turkish Cypriot Tobacco Organisation on Wednesday. They inspected the organisation’s work and were briefed about the activities of the tobacco factory, by the General Director, Salahaddin Bayirkan.

Bayirkan stated that the organisation made a profit last year of 9 million TL, adding that the contribution to the state last year was 26 million 578 thousand TL, while for this year it is estimated to be 37 million TL.

He explained further that there are 35 workers working at the tobacco factory, all of whom are Turkish Cypriot. The director noted that the company had granted scholarships to 100 university students by way of a contribution to society in general.

North Cyprus News - Karpaz - tobaccoReferring to production, particularly in the Karpaz region, Bayirkan asked Erhurman to undertake efforts in order to provide financial assistance to the factory.

PM Erhurman said that the Turkish Cypriot Tobacco Industry Company Limited (KTTE) which was established on 14 May 1975, is now a renovated and modern company which has an important role in the local market. Pointing out that initiatives have been undertaken together with the Turkish Republic in order to increase production, Erhurman said that they are now at a stage where they would be able to export tobacco to Libya and Iraq.
