Territory will be the focus of discussions between President Nicos Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akinci on Wednesday in Mont Pèlerin, Switzerland. Discussions on the criteria for this chapter are expected to continue on into Thursday.
The UN led talks are being guided by UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide.
Greek Cypriot daily ‘Phileleftheros’ reports that today’s talks on territory are critical because they will reveal the intentions of the Turkish Cypriot side. They will also indicate if the negotiations will be able to reach the final stage in a high-level five party conference on security and guarantees involving the three Cyprus guarantors – Turkey, Greece and the UK.
According to informed sources, on Tuesday, there had been meaningful discussions about property issues and in particular those related to territory, leading the way to today’s talks on territory.
The outcome of today’s talks will spotlight the intentions of both sides.
