Last chance for Cyprob negotiations: Eroglu

President Eroglu said yesterday that security guarantees were the only issue which had not been discussed at the Cyprus peace talks and added that the issue of guarantees would be on the table at a meeting to be held in participation with the guarantor powers.

Speaking at separate meetings with delegations from the “Nicosia Friends’ Association” and the “Culture and Solidarity Association” representing settlers from Gaziantep, Eroglu said that every effort would be made to examine all the chapters in the negotiations with the exception of the guarantees and to reach an agreement which will be acceptable to the Turkish Cypriots.

He reiterated that negotiations on the Cyprus problem have been held since 1968, that there had been some opportunity for agreement on certain chapters, but the Greek Cypriots had rejected them and therefore this is the last chance for a solution.

Eroglu described the world’s dealing with the Cyprus problem as an “injustice” while so many other problems exist.

The President said that the negotiators are meeting every week and that a meeting between the two community leaders is planned for the end of March or the beginning of April.
