The Cyprus Business People Investors and Economy Association have hit out at Labour and Social Security Minister Zeki Çeler for a using Paphos airport to travel to Jordan for a holiday.
Zeki Çeler, drew criticism after he and family members travelled to Aman from Paphos on Wednesday.
The labour minister had posted a photo from Paphos airport on social media creating a stir in the TRNC.
Çeler defended his decision to use Paphos airport by saying that travelling from Ercan was expensive and he had raised the issue of the cost of flights from the North. He added that he had not hidden the fact that he had flown from Paphos.
In a written response, the Cyprus Business Association said that it was unacceptable for Çeler to travel using an airport in South Cyprus, while dismissing the struggle against equality, the right to existence [for the Turkish Cypriots] and the embargo on Turkish Cypriot ports.
While we accept ordinary citizens’ freedom of travel and respect for consumer rights, we think that it is irresponsible that a politician having taken an oath, disregards the plight of ordinary people by suiting his own financial interests, the statement read.
