The Turkish Cypriot Union of Nurses and Midwives is protesting strongly about the vacant posts in their profession.
The head of the union, Oguz Kose, wants the 72 nursing and 5 matron positions filled immediately. He says that the UBP government has until the end of this week to comply.
If the positions are not filled, then his union members will start protesting as from Monday.
The initial protest will be a strike between 8.30 and 11.30 am. However Mr Kose would not say where this will take place.
An earlier report says that the new obstetric and gynaecology department of Kyrenia State hospital remains closed owing to staff shortages.
