KIB-TEK have suspended their power cuts to non-payers for the New Year festivities. They had recently turned off power to businesses and municipalities across North Cyprus in a bid to recover some of the 600 million TL owed to them in overdue bill payments. However, EL-SEN, the Electricity Workers Union, announced that street lights will be turned on and power reconnected to everyone as a temporary respite for the New Year celebrations.
The EL-SEN President, Caglayan Cesurer, has stated that the non-payers will be cut off again in January if they haven’t agreed repayment plans for their arrears. He added that KIB-TEK hopes to bring down the price of electricity to all customers once the huge debts are recovered.
